My company are using static IP address configuration, which mean each computer have to manually set an local IP address, most of the company use to do this, for better control over their network.

For using windows XP, I did not found any difficulties to shift my local IP address, but with using windows vista, the process is very slow, and always ask me for permission during the process.

Start -> Setting -> Network connection, right click on the LAN, and click property, it always pop up “Windows need your permission to continue” and while click OK, it need few second to process.

After shift the IP, still need few second to apply the setting, all this second, make me feel annoying it take more step to accomplish.

I search over the Internet, found this useful software, it able to help me shift my local IP address. IPShifter, is a good software which able to let me save few configuration. I have save 1 setting for my office, and save 1 setting for my home network.

While I back home, just plug my laptop back to the network, and simple few click to shift IP address, the setting has been change. So to the same process while I back to office.

As an IT Engineer, I need to provide 1st level technical support to my end user. Some how, the user are not next to me, which located in different location or different stage or even different country.

Guiding him/her through the phone are easy, if the person have some technical knowledge, but what if the person is IT dummy? Just like a chicken communicate with duck. For this case, I require to use remote access software, log in to their computer and help them troubleshoot their problem.

Remote access software is one of the good tools for technical support to solve the end user problem easily. Normally I will use RealVNC at my office, but problem is this software require port redirect/ port forwarding setting at the destination router, different router different setting, and also hard to guide the user do the setting at their router via phone call, this is not a easy use remote access software.

How to use LogMeIn remote access software? some people said is very troublesome, and it take many step to start using this LogMeIn remote access software. In my opinion, it is very easy to use this remote access software, with few correct step. This is why I try to compile the step by step using logMeIn.com for any one who need to use this service.

LogMeIn Client Side Installation

Let start at Target workstation first, or we call it as destination workstation, the computer which I need to login in (My Client Computer)

1) My client (Target) need to access http://www.logmein.com

2) Click on “Download LogMeIn for free” (For 1st time user only)

3) My client require to register for LogMeIn website, the email & password must be know by me later, so that my side able to log in the destination computer with this email as login ID. (more…)

While I told my friend I am going to bon odori, the 1st thing they will comment: “those are kids event” because at their mind set, this event full of those secondary school student, around 16 year old to 20 year old, we use to be there during our secondary school.

I did not snap much picture actually, is full of people, and very peak, can’t snap a good picture, only manage to snap people’s head. Oh ya, talk about head, I manage to snap head of Penang, the Chief Minister of Penang is dance with those Japanese people. What a wonderful moment.

Lot of people there, and under the stage, dance with all those Japanise, and some are fake Japanise actually, because I heard they are speaking chinese or hokkien… lol

As an IT Engineer, I use to label all the gadget, no matter is my own gadget, or my company gadget, or my client gadget, I will lable it.

My company have 2 set of lable printer, mostly we will print out the labels, and stick on the device, and send it to our customer. The information we print at the label include company name (owner of the device) , setting (Network SSID, IP address, configuration info)

I am just thinking to propose my boss print out our own company Labels, with company logo in the labels as marketing purposes.

It is very presentable if able to stick company labels, which contain company contact information at the device.

For future consideration, might bring more business to company while some one accidentally saw the labels at our client premise, and contact us if they need our service for the particular product / device. (more…)
