Have you used biterscripting ? It is a scripting language that my students (I realize you are not a student) find very easy to learn and are quick to pick up. In addition to doing the DOS things, it also can transparently access documents, data directly on the internet. There are several biterscripting scripts posted on the web by various people.

I just thought I mention it as a possible alternative to DOS scripting and other scripting languages. It is free and installation instructions are at http://www.biterscripting.com/install.html .
