I have been driving my 2 wheel sport car for almost 9 year since year 2001, together with heavy sun light and heavy rain all the while. Initially I was planning to get my 1st car after driving my 2 wheel sport car for 10 year.
Middle of this year, I have budgeting of either Honda City now, or Honda Civic 2 year later, but out of expectation, now I have a thinking on Honda Civic now or Honda Accord 1 year later… But feel that Accord is too “Uncle” type, not suit for me

Pass week end, I have arrange a test drive on Honda Civic 1.8S with the Honda sales personnel . After the test drive, not much special since just drive at the town road, and approximate 5 to 10 minute only, but during I start the engine, feel like not yet started! the engine is very smooth and quiet, totally heaven and hell if compare to my father’s Toyota Collora DX since 1980.

For the interior on Honda Civic, is very big and comfortable, but the disadvantage on Civic 1.8S is without “Paddle Shift Control” transmission, only available at Civic 2.0S which cost extra RM15,000.
According to the sales person, the color available for the next quarter will only have Taffeta White and Sparkle Grey Pearl, I still not yet decide to get what color, probably will get taffeta while, and may be put in Type-R body kit after some time later
but fore sure people will laugh at me!
While for car loan, may be now economy more good, loan interest also increase, approximate 3.3% for normal bank, and 2.95% for those more unique type of bank (not much branches one), I still not yet decide get which one yet… what your opinion?
Anyway, if you need to know more, probably can visit Honda Civic Official Website for more information or wait for my full review after I get the car.

Due to the high interest rate currently, IMHO you should wait for a few more years (nothing as compared to the 9 years right), and save the same amount of money for installment. Therefore, you can reduce the amount of loan and the payback period, and perhaps the interest rate may have decreased by that time.
Being patience is good in buying new cars. Usually, you will only enjoy the new car for the first or two years only. Hence, make sure that the payback time should not exceed more than 3 years (5 max).
By the way, in my opinion, I like the Civic.
Just my $0.02.

Honda Civic is quite good but the maintenance you need to consider especially petrol. If got hybrid system in it, that will be great. Good luck in getting your new car and remember to take me for a drive.
By calvyn on Oct 27, 2009 | Reply
Maintenance should be fine for 1st 3 year… petrol according to survey might be 16cent/km, but next year govt not going to subsidize petrol already
By Jayce on Oct 28, 2009 | Reply
“Paddle Shift Control” What is that?
By ahbing on Oct 28, 2009 | Reply
I was about to comment about the petrol hike, until you mentioned it.
I wonder, if government do not subsidize petrol, will they lower the tax for foreign cars? I really despise local car… I really do. No improvements since 1985.
Never had good experience with local cars, especially Proton.
What do you think
By calvyn on Oct 29, 2009 | Reply
this is the reason I don’t choose local car, I believe civic price can buy 3 new proton saga already…
some more not really safety which heard a lot people mention the iron are actually build from recycle milo tin

Honda have the trend of having facelift every 2~3 years and a total new model every 5 years. The current 8th gen Civic (FD) start production in 2006, facelift at 2009, that mean 9th gen Civic will come out in 2011.
If you buy it next year, after few months driving, become old model liao loh…sianzzzz
IMHO, either buy it now or wait for 2011 new model. Buy it next year is a big no no.

You should get a car right now as motorcycle is just too dangerous and high risk.
I’m planning for a second hand Toyota Camry which will cost me around MYR70,000-80,000 in 2 years time to come.

I expect honda civic also can offer a free service for 40000km like honda city. it save me a lot to maintain the car.
but….zzzzzzz

Hi calvyn,
I’m currently having the same situation as you
I had been driving 2 wheel sport car all this while and now I had been thinking of buying my dream car honda civic next year but after a lot of feed back and research.. there is a few comments and facts I would like to share with you.
1) New Model Honda Civic is confirm coming out on 2011. As usual the price for the new model is going to be more expensive than now and your car value will drop if u buy it at 2010
2) Gov going to impose GSTax on 2011, you may need to pay extra 4% tax in 2011
i’m having the dilemma of buying the civic in 2010 or 2011 and i will wait till next year to decide if there is any changes on the pricing
but I agree with Ng, if you really like it then you should buy it now
(if 2012 happens, at least u get to enjoy ur new car for 2 years)
rgds

hi ben, selling value does not have any affect on my future, I don’t plan to sell my car, and plan to drive it for at least 10 to 15 year, but about the GStax, I have no idea about that, need to digg it out
, thank for your info… about 2012, i not really believe it will happen, do you?
By Ben on Dec 7, 2009 | Reply
if you are not planning to sell it 10~15 years
i would advise you to buy it next year
we will never know what will be the new honda civic look like
and the one thing confirmed, that is the 2011 civic will of course be more expensive than now.
the price range will be totally different
ps: i dont believe 2012 will happen also
